The StrakeWell™ is manufactured to the same standards as traditional bar stock thermowells with the addition of strakes that are welded on a straight thermowell shank in a helical geometry. The materials of the welded helical strakes are commonly the same alloy as the base metal. In some cases, a different alloy can be used.

These specialized thermowells are available in both threaded and flanged process connections that meet ASME standards. Multiple alloys are available with the most common ones noted below. StrakeWell™ designs are registered with a Canadian Registration Number (CRN).
The helical strake geometry increases the diameter of the shank by approximately 150-thousandths of an inch, depending on the process conditions. The strakes begin at the tip of the thermowell and travel up the shank ending where the process flow conditions will no longer affect the thermowell.
